PGA Championship 2010: Tiger Woods In Contention

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — The fog finally lifted over Whistling Straits and revealed a stunning vista.
Tiger Woods' name was atop the leaderboard.
Just not for long.
At the end of opening day in the PGA Championship, he wasn't near the names of Bubba Watson and Francesco Molinari, who each opened with a 4-under 68; or Ernie Els, Matt Kuchar and Nick Watney, who also were at 4 under when it became too dark for them to finish the first round.

Woods, who made three birdies inside 12 feet on the opening four holes, had to birdie his final hole just to break par, a 1-under 71. That used to be considered an ordinary start in a major. Considering his recent woes, this was nearly cause for celebration.
"To shoot something under par, that was the goal today," Woods said.
He joined 21 others among the 78 early starters who completed the first round, which was delayed by more than three hours because of fog. Still to be determined is whether he can back that up. It was the first time in eight rounds that Woods had broken par.
And there were enough errant shots, including one that went so far left it found a marsh he didn't know was there, that Woods had to make an 8-foot birdie on the final hole to avoid wasting a day in which he appeared to make progress.
"I've played too good not to shoot under par," Woods said. "It would've been very disappointing and frustrating to end up at even par as well as I played today. To make that putt – to shoot under par – just feels like that's what I should have shot the way I played today. And that's a good feeling."

Metor Shower Tonight

Metor shower tonight: Are you ready to enjoy the meteor shower peak Perseids? The best time to be surprised by a wonderful event this evening and before dawn on Friday.
In fact, when it hosted a live chat NASA astronomer Bill Cooke, then we have the computers ready for the 23 Eastern Time today. The meteorologists expect this year’smeteor shower is active, because the conditions are favorable in some areas where the light of the moon WAS’t be a problem, as provided for machete.
The August Perseids are the most powerful readily observed annual meteor showers, and the maximum activity nominally yield of 90-10 meteors per hour Space.com writer Joe Rao column.
Every city or suburb near the lights to see a lot less. Perseids come every year in August and I am a miracle, no less than 2000 years. Thismeteor shower associated with the comet Swift Tuttle, which passes around the sun once every 133 years.

Dr Laura

Dr. Laura Schlessinger has apologized after a shocking rant on her radio show this week during which she said the n-word 11 times over the course of five minutes.

In conversation Tuesday with a black female caller who was complaining about her white husband's racist friends and their use of the word, Schlessinger said:

Black guys use it all the time. Turn on HBO and listen to a black comic, and all you hear is n****, n*****, n*****. I don't get it. If anybody without enough melanin says it, it's a horrible thing. But when black people say it, it's affectionate. It's very confusing.

LISTEN (via MediaMatters):

After a break, the caller said she was appalled by Schlessinger's use of the word.

"Oh, then I guess you don't watch HBO or listen to any black comedians," she said. "My dear, the point I am trying to make...we've got a black man as president and we've got more complaining about racism than ever. I think that's hilarious."

Schlessinger and the caller then got into an exchange about the use of the word:

CALLER: Is it OK to say that word? Is it ever OK to say that word?
DR. LAURA: It depends how it's said. Black guys talking to each other seem to think it's ok.
CALLER: But you're not black, they're not black, my husband is white.
DR. LAURA: Oh, I see, so a word is restricted to race. Got it. Can't do much about that.
CALLER: I can't believe someone like you is on the radio spewing out the n***** word, and I hope everybody heard it.
DR. LAURA: I didn't spew out the n***** word!
CALLER: You said "n*****, n*****, n*****" and I hope everybody heard it.
DR. LAURA: Yes they did, and I'll say it again: n*****, n*****, n***** is what you hear on HBO.
[Crosstalk]
DR. LAURA: Why don't you let me finish a sentence? Don't take things out of context. Don't NAACP me, leave them in context.

"If you're that hypersensitive about color and don't have a sense of humor, don't marry outside of your race," Schlessinger said after hanging up with the caller.

Meteor Shower August 2010:

The 2010 Meteor Shower August is anticipated to happen this late night of August 12, 2010. Meteors or shooting stars have already happening streaking across the skies this week, but the peak is set for the late night hours of Thursday and predawn Friday, according to reports.
The Perseids are alleged as they emerge to come from the Perseus constellation. And Human beings have been capable to see the Perseid meteor shower every August for around 2000 years, as the Earth passes during the comet dust.
Notts astronomer Phil Randall said that “You can get between 50 and 80 meteors during an hour, so there’s a fair chance you will see something”.
A small 1-inch (2.5-cm) thick meteor caused the fireball when it met a burning demise August 3 whilst streaking during Earth’s atmosphere, according to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. The fireball was pragmatic by sky-watching cameras operated by the space center.

The fireball happened at about 9:56 pm local time and was low in the sky when it entered Earth’s atmosphere about 70 miles (112.6 km) above the town of Paint Rock. It appeared about 9.5 degrees above the horizon. For contrast, your fist held at arm’s length is equal to about 10 degrees of the night sky.

NASA spokesperson Janet Anderson said that “It’s a very good start to this year’s Perseid meteor shower, which will peak on the night of August 12-13 between midnight and dawn”. And NASA observations found the meteor to be hurtling through the atmosphere at a phenomenal 134,000 mph (215,652 kph).

Kat Von D Tattoos

The beautiful Kat Von D, is star of Miami Ink and LA ink. She owns the extemely successful High Voltage Tattoo in Hollywood California, which is where The very popular TLC hit series LA Ink takes place. Kat Von D has a great deal of her body graced with some of the nicest tattoos done by some of the most talented tattoo artists in the world.
While the acceptance of tattoos in the mainstream has been growing for some time, with about 15 percent of men in America sporting a tattoo, and 13 percent of women, the growing fame and celebrity of Kat Von D has really brought the art to a high level, as she, more than anybody, is definitely the face of tattooing to the masses.

Of course within the inner circles of the subculture there are many great artists which Kat herself respects and considers far more talented.

One in particular she has high regard for is Kore Flatmo, who has been her mentor and major inspiration.

That is true in some respects, but in her specific area she's up there at the top.

But because she's interesting, photogenic, and absolutely loves the art, she's quickly become the greatest marketing tool the genre has ever had.

I think what makes Kat Von D so marketable, isn't simply her dark beauty, which she definitely has, but she's able to appeal to the inner circle of the tattoo world and not be considered a sellout, while at the same time able to reach out to the average person and not be considered weird to the point of not being able to connect to her.

In other words, she's perfect for the job, and her passion for her craft allows her to represent it in a way that is real and not contrived. People always feel the passion of someone who really loves what they do, and that is part of the persona of Von D.

As far as her favorite personal tattoo? It's the star tattoos on the side of her head.

If Kat Von D chooses to, she can go as far as she wants, as doors are opening before her, and she's building out her brand in other areas like makeup, and also released her first book in early 2009 - High Voltage Tattoo.

What's amazing about this to me, is how design can be applied to so many areas, and things you would think are limited, can be taken far beyond what can be imagined.

That's where tattooing is today, and it's just getting started. Kat Von D is one of those helping take it to the next level.
